Vacuuming Carpet; There’s More to It Than You Think

Most people are aware that regular vacuuming is a very important task in maintaining a clean home, but choosing the right vacuum cleaner for your flooring can make a big difference, particularly when it comes to carpets. You could be ruining your carpet without realising! Proper care will ensure your carpets remain looking beautiful for longer.
Here are our tips for correctly cleaning your carpets, based on types of fibres, piles and vacuums!

Not all carpets are the same, and not all vacuums are either…

All wool carpets, loop pile synthetics & long pile synthetics – Plain suction head vacuums are recommended

Does your wool loop carpet look fuzzy or is it piling? It could be that you’re using the wrong type of vacuum cleaner. Revolving brush heads and power head vacuums are damaging to wool carpets, loop pile synthetics and long pile synthetics, causing excessive fuzzing of the pile surface and affecting the tailored appearance of your carpet. Opt for a plain suction head vacuum for these fibres to avoid damage while still lifting out dust and dirt.

Thick, soft, twist & cut twist pile synthetic carpets – Revolving brush/power head vacuums are recommended

Use a high height setting on a rotating brush/power head vacuum so the brush lightly touches the carpet surface – the brush roller is effective at cleaning in and around the carpet fibres, removing debris and allergens! However, avoid vacuums with very concentrated or sealed suctions as they will be difficult to push over the thick fibre. Large wheels will ensure the vacuum can glide easily.

Good filtration is a must!

To effectively clean your carpet use only a quality vacuum cleaner. Vacuums fitted with micro filter systems ensure fine particles (such as dust mite allergens) are removed and stay in the collection bag or canister. This is particularly important if you are dust sensitive!
